The Ultimate at Home Facial

Updated: Apr 15, 2018

Grab some comfy pyjamas because this at home facial will have you feeling relaxed and pampered; without having to leave the house!

This simple 5 step guide uses things you already have around the house to sooth and rejuvenate your skin.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1. Cleanser 2. Facial scrub 3. Large bowl 4. Large towel 5. Face towel 6. Face mask 7. Moisturizer

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleansing does not mean to use a face wash! The difference between a cleanser and a regular old face wash is that a cleanser is much more moisturizing for the skin. So, if you don’t already have one, don’t fret. You can easily pick one up from the drugstore.

Now that you know the difference grab your cleanser and get ready. Rinse your face using lukewarm water, remembering to remove any makeup residue with a make-up remover.

Then, dot the cleanser around your forehead, cheeks, chin and neck. Take the time to massage it into your face with a circular motion. When complete, rinse your face using a warm washcloth.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Grab a facial scrub and rub it into your face with circular motions. Concentrate on the areas around your nose and forehead (as they tend to be the driest). If you have combination to dry skin, try working the scrub in harder to the areas that get oil build up.

Step 3: Steam

There are 2 ways to do this depending on your time constraints.

Not a lot of time? Fill the sink with warm to hot water. Dip in a wash cloth and press it into your face two to three times.

Lots of time? Put on the kettle and boil some water. Once done, pour it into a large bowl. Then, grab a towel and cover your face with it over the bowl. This can feel intense but stick with it for about 5-10 minutes, or longer if preferred.

Step 4: Apply a Mask

Depending on your skin type, you will want to apply a different type of mast

Oily Skin: Use a clay- based mask to help suck up extra oil.

Dry Skin: Go for a hydrating mask, or cream one. This will help inject moisture back into it.

Combination Skin: Any type of mask will work for you!

When you’ve picked your mask apply it to your face (avoiding the eyes). Keep it on for 10-20 minutes, or as directed. When done, rinse off.

Step 5: Moisturize

Apply a moisturizer to your face and neck in circular motions. Personally, I love to use coconut oil-It’s cheap, organic, works well and smells great!
